Title: Alarm Will Sound
Author: aluragayle
Fandom: Loveless/Saiyuki
PWP!

Alyuragayle is one of a handful of writers I've found on livejournal who write extremely powerful Loveless fics.  They are as heartbreakingly beautiful as the manga and anime.   Most of it is Soubi  and Kio, with Ritsuka thrown into the mix occasionally.  I looked for one that would contain actual Yaoi, so as not to break my own rules too often ^_^

This fic throws an angsty Kio and horny Gojyo together in a bar for a quick, hard PWP. But there's never a happy ending for Kio without Soubi.

Title: Battle Grounds
Author: BlackRose
Fandom: Final Fantasy 8
Length: Multi-fic series
Pairing: Irvine/Zell
Find them HERE

I found this again today and reread them all, instead of the homework I should be doing.  This is from the early days of FF8 yaoi, back in 2000.  It's set during the game, starting with "Looking for a Cure" on the way back from their field exam.  This sets up the realtionship between Zell and Squall, and Squall and Seifer.  Obviously Irvine isn't involved yet, but he makes his appearance in the second fic, "The Art of War."  I believe tihs is the only time I've read about Irvine dealing with GF's for the first time in a really convincing way.

What I like about this series is the realism. The battles are hard, painful and bloody.  The aftermath of the battles can be even more painful.

And let me tell you, the writing itself has to be damn good for me to recommend this pairing!

Old fans should read this again.  Newer ones shouldn't miss it!
What more could you want?

Title: The Black March
Author: PL Nunn
Fandom: Bastard!
Warnings: Graphic violence, not very graphic noncon, strong lemon scene. Multichapter but complete.

http://bishonenworks.com/fiction_new/story_chapters/blackmarch1.php

"Bastard!" is an older, little known anime that to my knowledge consists of about 5 episodes and a teeny bit of manga. It answers the age old question of 'what does a man with absolute power do?' (answer: pretty much, whatever he wants) There are probably 10 good fanfics for this show on all of the net, and PL has written 3 of them.

People tend to forget that PL Nunn also writes lovely fics in addition to drawing her pretty (and naughty) boys. This is the third in a series but it stands alone well, as I can attest, since I not only read it first, but also read the fic before I ever saw any of the anime "Bastard!". The words flow and PL deals with potentially squicky moments (the bad guy is *very* evil) delicately, so the reader knows what's going on without having to endure too many unpleasant images. In between there are some great lines, a sexy pirate, excellent action scenes and PL's dead perfect version of the great wizard, Dark Schneider.

The best part of the fic is the rocky relationship between Dark Schneider and his one time adopted son/mortal enemy, Kall-su (also sometimes translated as Karlo). By this point (post anime) Kall has betrayed Schneider, been redeemed, and forgiven DS for a few betrayals of his own. I won't say Schneider's interest is fatherly, although he does maintain a parental urge to interfere in Kall-Su's life. Schneider is a possessive man, and he considers Kall to be *his*, in any sense of the word that pleases him at the moment. Kall-su, an ice wizard of nonhuman but unknown origin, fluctuates between affectionate exasperation and morbidly obsessive longing for the man he *never* thought of as a parent.

Don't be put off by the fact that much of the early fic is spent trying to rescue Kall-su's girlfriend, Lily. Like Pirates of the Caribbean (and this fic was written before it ever came out) it's obvious to all yaoi lovers who the real couples should be.

Allow me to also recommend some of PL's images to go with the fic: under Bastard!! Gen particularly images #475, 479, (Kall-su or Karlo), 490, and 497 (Schneider). The link to her image gallery is at the bottom of the page listed above.

Title: Accursed Line
Author: Ng
Fandom: FF7, specifically the TURKS
Warnings: Dark. Noncon. Addictive.

http://www.kekkai.org/ng/accursedline.html

(site is down but you can still find the fics using the WayBack Machine
http://www.archive.org/index.php )

First, allow me to apologize to all fans of this wonderful fic: I'm not entirely sure I have the author's name correct since she never refers to herself by name on her web site.

Accursed Line is an old fic, written back when fan cannon held that if you are a TURK, you pretty much do whatever you are told. No matter what. Ng plays on this, creating a moody dark Midgar reminiscent of Batman's Gotham City. There is no law except ShinRa, and the TURKS enforce it ruthlessly.

Enter Reno, new guy and perennial survivor. He plays the odds and he plays the fool but he knows, as does the reader, that ultimately, his boss will get anything he wants and Reno is powerless to stop it. The game of cat and mouse - and what happens after - is laid out with such deliberate evil that it took my breath away.

And look! There's even a more or less happy ending.
Title: The entire "Hero" series
Author: Race Ulfson
Fandom: Final Fantasy 8
Pairing: Seifer/Squall

Starts four years after the game ends, when things are getting interesting again for Squall and Seifer.  The characterizations are always perfect without being totally stereotypical or stock fandom stuff.  It's a surprise to see Seifer as an EMT, and talking affectionately about his goddaughter.  But then, it hits you like.. Hell yeah.  He's not just an inhuman bastard.

A good series of fics that are good to go back and read again every once in a while.

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Title: Chocolate Bars and Pointy Rocks
Pairing: Sephiroth/Zack
Author: misskalloway

Pithy comments, sexual tension and pre-mental-breakdown Sephiroth.  Zack and Sephiroth are totally convincing in this fic, and I don't think they're among the easier characters to write.  The fic progresses partly through notebook "entries" by Zack while he's on a mission with Sephiroth.  Young Zack, still learning the ropes and establishing himself is utterly cute.

Title: Various
Fandom: Yami no Matsuei
Pairing: Tatsumi/Watari
Authors: Rhea and Shan

I have to recommend something by Rhea and/or Shan.  My only hesitation has been that their longer series are unfinished and it's unclear when or if they will be updated.  But, they write damn good YnM fics and it would be a shame for anyone to overlook them.
So I'm just going to recommend everything!  Their LJ is omoikiri

They write the best Tatsumi/Watari I've found.  If you ever thought Watari couldn't be angsty, you need to read these fics.  They don't take anything for granted about these two, and the depth of their characterization is impressive.

Title: "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained"
Author: KD Sarge
Pairings: well, that's what the fic is about, really.

This is a light, fun read with some great lines and a bit of well placed angst. Mostly, Yohji is fumbling through sorting out his feelings for Aya, with a lot more help from Schuldig than he really wants or needs. Meanwhile Crawford, without the heavy weight of Esset to keep them all in line, is trying to keep his little family of Schwarz together and functional.

It spins out to a tad OOC in some spots, but there's a lot going on, so I recomend just going with the flow. The fic is a fun, fast ride.
